Angels are mentioned throughout the Bible. Therefore, we are able to believe in their existence and purpose because we are saved by faith in what the Word of God says,1 and what He has done, and is doing. Christ is the Word of God.2 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of power and truth” (John 1:14). “And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God” (Rev. 19:13).
The Lord Jesus mentioned angels throughout His ministry. He told of their meaning, of their purpose, and of God’s plan for them. One angel alone wiped out the entire army of Sennacherib (King Sennacherib of Assyria), 185,000 men in one night.3 Isaiah 37:36 says, “Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and four score and five thousand: and when they [the Jews] arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.” The angel of the Lord is the Lord. God’s angels are sinless, immortal beings. They are said to be in great numbers, and are in close relationship with individuals, but also in God’s heavenly kingdom. Jesus, in His parable of the sower, said in Matthew 13:37-39, “He that soweth the good seed [the Word of God] is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one [the devil] [they are, by the millions, living in people today who are doing wickedness]; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world [not rapture, the doctrine of a rapture is heresy]; and the reapers are the angels.” Jesus said, “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in Heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father which is in Heaven” (Matt. 18:10). Jesus said, “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in Heaven” (Matt. 22:30). In Matthew 25:31, Jesus said, “When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory.” Jesus said in the Living Word, “Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He shall presently give Me more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matt. 26:53). Jesus reveals in Luke 15:10, “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” Jesus said, “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried” (Luke 16:22).
The Lord’s teachings on angels are exceedingly harmonious. The same is true of the teachings on apostles. To me, the history of the angels is plain. God created them; two thirds kept their first estate, while one third left their Heavenly home to follow the devil and are doomed.4 Two thirds keep to God, while one third doesn’t. Two thirds will spend eternity in Heaven; one third will always be tormented in Hell and the lake of fire. What more is there to know?
Just as Adam and Eve were created sinless, Satan and his fallen angels (demons) were also created sinless, but they fell just as men fall. God doesn’t hide this fact! “How art thou fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into Heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars [the angels] of God: I will sit also upon the mount [the nation of God] of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit” (Isa. 14:12-15).
“And there appeared another wonder in Heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars [angels] of Heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman [spiritual Israel, the body of Christ] which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born,” (Rev. 12:3-4). These evil angels did not keep their own domain but fell under God’s judgment and are reserved for “the judgment of the great day” (Jude 6).
It is very rational to believe in the existence of angels, which are superior in intelligence to mankind. However, the evil angels are inferior. The value in believing in angels is 1) We are commanded to believe on God’s Word (Christ) and we shall be saved. Angels give us safety against narrow belief as to the extent and variety of God’s creations. 2) We also receive a more truthful understanding of Christ, who is above the angels and the person of angelic worship. 3) We are also able to get a tremendous insight into the unseen world (eternity), which is the place we are heading. 4) We are in part able to understand the joy and fulfillment of the will of God. By the will of God, it will be done on earth as it is in Heaven by us with the help and assistance of angels.
Christ never died to give us the right to sin.5 He, as the Holy Spirit (the Comforter), gives us the power, by living in us, to not sin again.6 We are the bride of Christ, if we prepare ourselves to be holy, spotless, and without sin.7 Christ must have a spotless bride. If we willfully sin, we cannot be accepted. We have the power of the Holy Spirit, which gives us power. We have the assistance of the angels, and we can talk to God through Jesus,8 so there is no excuse. Get to God now. We’re at the end of time. Don’t delay. Say this prayer to God right now.
My Lord and my God, have mercy upon my soul, a sinner. 1 I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God. 2 I believe that He died on the cross and shed His precious blood for the forgiveness of all my sins. 3 I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit 4 and that He sits on the right hand of God at this moment, hearing my confession of sin and this prayer. 5 I open up the door of my heart and I invite You into my heart, Lord Jesus. 6 Wash all of my filthy sins away in the precious blood that You shed in my place on the cross at Calvary. 7 You will not turn me away, Lord Jesus, You will forgive my sins and save my soul. I know because Your Word, the Bible says so. 8 Your Word says that You will turn no one away, and that includes me. 9 Therefore, I know that You have heard me, and I know that You have answered me, and I know that I am saved. 10 And I thank You, Lord Jesus, for saving my soul, and I will show my thankfulness by doing as You command and sin no more. 11
You've just completed the first step in a series of five steps which are necessary to receive salvation. Your second step is to deny yourself and take up the cross daily for the purpose of mortifying yourself, that is, for putting to death your own will, your soulful self, and the world with all of its lusts. All these must be baptized into the death of Christ.
Step three is your resurrection from the satanic life of Adam unto the sinless life of Christ. Step four is your ascension into a position of authority to reign for God on earth, and the fifth step is to reign for God on earth to the end for the purpose of bringing about the kingdom of Heaven on earth. You must learn the Word of God, then submit yourself and do what the Word says, so that the Church and the world may see evidence of your submission to God's Word, His order, and His authority in and by you.
Praise the Lord. May God reward you abundantly.
