THE FOOTWASH

by Tony Alamo

The footwash mentioned in chapter 13 of John has more meaning than anyone I know has explained. Most people will tell you the footwash is GOD’S way of teaching Christians to be humble, but this is not entirely true.

“Adam, Sheth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalaleel, Jered, Henoch [who is the same as Enoch], Methuselah, Lamech, Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth” (1 Chronicles 1:1-4). The word “feet” or “foot” means the end part of the leg on which one stands. Many people have had their feet or legs cut or blown off or were born without legs or feet. If this describes you, you are not able to physically stand, but you can certainly make a stand for GOD.1 You can make a big difference in this present world against the wiles of Satan today. Others have done so in the past. Heaven is very much worth it.2

It is much different to wash the feet of the saints than it is to wash the feet of sinners. Why? This is because the saints are the ones who carry the Gospel of eternal life to the world on their feet, which make a stand for GOD against Satan.3 I will wash the feet of Seth, Enoch, Noah, or anyone like them.

Genesis 5:21-24 says, “And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: And Enoch walked with GOD after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with GOD: and he was not; for GOD took him.”

I would wash the feet of Enoch or anyone that has walked with GOD three hundred sixty and five years. It’s hard in today’s world to convince people to walk with GOD for three hundred sixty five days, but, of course, their refusal to do so leads them to their destruction. A few people in the world today believe JESUS said we must abide in HIM (John 15:4-10). The word “abide” means to remain, to await, to put up with, to submit to, and to carry out.

The conditions of the world in the times of Noah were very much like the conditions of the world today. Genesis 6:5 states, “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” I would not wash the feet of wicked people because they don’t carry the Gospel. They pay no attention to what they are doing, where they are going, or what they are saying. “Hello, how are you?” “Have a good day.” “LORD bless you, brother.” They may eat and drink with you, but inside they are like ravening wolves.4 They don’t have anything in them but Satan. They leer at Christians, and if we distribute Gospel literature, they say they will shoot us if they see us. The newspaper in Texarkana printed an article stating if anyone saw Christians distributing my Christian literature, they were to “call 911.” The newspapers work hand in hand with the government to put an end to the WORDS of GOD because the WORD of GOD is the only way that can bring a man to repentance. The world, which at this moment is run by Satan, wants everyone to be in the Lake of Fire with them, just as they did in the days of Noah.5

Noah preached the WORD of GOD. He said that the world as it was would come to an end in one hundred twenty years, and it did come to an end in exactly one hundred twenty years (Genesis 6:3-13). Noah was constant, consistent in warning the world to repent for one hundred twenty years while he was building the ark. Just think what would have happened if Noah was not consistent, if he had stopped building the ark. If it was half finished, he would have drowned with the rest of the evil people of the world, because he would have been lukewarm, and GOD would have spewed him out of HIS mouth, just as HE is doing with people today who have stopped being on fire with zeal for GOD (Revelation 3:15-19).6

Romans 10:13-15 states, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved. How then shall they call on HIM in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in HIM of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” That is why I will wash the feet of those who preach the pure gospel of GOD any day.

Luke 7:37-38 says, “And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that JESUS sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at HIS feet behind HIM weeping, and began to wash HIS feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed HIS feet, and anointed them with the ointment.” The people of the world today put a sexual connotation even on everything as deeply SPIRITUAL as this scripture, but the reality of this scripture is that “No man [or woman] can come to ME [JESUS], except the FATHER which has sent ME draw him [or her]: and I will raise him [or her] up at the last day” (John 6:44).

The HOLY SPIRIT showed her that JESUS was GOD in the flesh.7 She knew that HE had delivered her from every sin that she had ever committed. She also knew that HE would be faithful to the FATHER, and would even die on the cross for her sins and for the sins of everyone that would receive HIM.8 She knew that the FATHER would draw her unto HIM. She was weeping because she was so thankful for her salvation and she had empathy, a very good heart. She was no longer a sinner, but a saint. The FATHER had revealed to her very deep SPIRITUAL matters, and her heart was broken to pieces. However, because there is so much sin in the world today, the love of many has waxed cold (Matthew 24:12). These words are from JESUS telling of end-time prophecy in Matthew chapter 24.

John 13:1-7 states, “Now before the feast of the Passover, when JESUS knew that HIS hour was come that HE should depart out of this world unto the FATHER, having loved HIS own which were in the world, HE loved them unto the end. And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray HIM; JESUS knowing that the FATHER had given all things into HIS hands, and that HE was come from GOD, and went to GOD; HE riseth from supper, and laid aside HIS garments; and took a towel, and girded HIMSELF. After that HE poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith HE was girded. Then cometh HE to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto HIM, LORD, dost THOU wash my feet? JESUS answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.”

The Bible states that JESUS said the HOLY SPIRIT will teach us all things (John 14:26, 1 John 2:27). That is why JESUS had to go away to the FATHER in Heaven, so that HE could send the HOLY SPIRIT, the COMFORTER, unto us so that we could learn all things from the HOLY SPIRIT’S teachings.9 The feet and hands of JESUS were pierced with nails because HE faithfully carried the Gospel to the world. The feet of HIS disciples would also carry the Gospel to the world, and they too would be martyred for bringing the truth to the world on their feet.10 They were all saved, with the exception of one (John 17:12). But even after you are saved, your feet must be obedient as to where to carry your body with the SPIRIT within it, which now is the Body of CHRIST with HIS SPIRIT in us. You must go where CHRIST, the head of HIS body, the Church, wants your, HIS feet to take your body, where HE wants HIS body to go, and to do what HE wants HIS body to do.11 “Ye are bought with a price [the blood of JESUS]; be not ye the servants of men [but serve only GOD]” (1 Corinthians 7:23). “Be not many masters” (James 3:1). Serve GOD with the whole heart.

The washing of the feet is symbolic of doing only what the LORD commands and of listening to the HOLY SPIRIT and being led by the HOLY SPIRIT, which is the same as the WORD of GOD!12 John chapter 13:8-10 states, “Peter saith unto HIM, THOU shalt never wash my feet [if he knew what he was saying, which in reality he was saying, ‘YOU shall never guide my steps, YOU will never show me the way to go’]. JESUS answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with ME [in other words, you are not a member of MY body]. Simon Peter saith unto HIM, LORD, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. JESUS saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.”

After you’re saved from your sins, now you must do MY work, walk in the SPIRIT always. What JESUS is saying is that even if you are saved, your feet have to carry your body, which is no longer your body, but is the LORD’S, and you must do HIS will. In other words, you are not called to sit in a church for one hour on Sunday and possibly Wednesday for an hour to impatiently hear a watered-down sermon. If you’re called of the LORD, you are to be on your feet, on call 24/7 to be led by the SPIRIT, ready to leave Egypt—your feet, your body, and your tongue.13 The LORD is active, and when you are in HIM and HE is in you, you are active as well. Leaving Egypt, sin, being the Body of CHRIST, is literal.

John 13:13-14 says, “Ye call ME MASTER and LORD: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your LORD and MASTER, have washed your feet [shown you the way]; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet [show your neighbor the way and live it, support one another as one body].” John 13:15-16 says, “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his LORD; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.”

John 13:19-21 states, “Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am HE. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth ME; and he that receiveth ME receiveth HIM that sent ME. When JESUS had thus said, HE was troubled in SPIRIT, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray ME.” The SPIRIT troubled JESUS regarding HIS betrayal, and we, HIS body, must be SPIRITUAL as well so we may be warned of trouble, be winners of souls, and be led to victory.14 Begin your walk in the SPIRIT now. Receive salvation now by saying this prayer. Then serve GOD with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and be baptized, fully submerged in water, in the name of the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT, and serve GOD till the day you die.

Prayer

My LORD and my GOD, have mercy upon my soul, a sinner. 1 I believe that JESUS CHRIST is the SON of the living GOD. 2 I believe that HE died on the cross and shed HIS precious blood for the forgiveness of all my former sins. 3 I believe that GOD raised JESUS from the dead by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT 4 and that HE sits on the right hand of GOD at this moment, hearing my confession of sin and this prayer. 5 I open up the door of my heart, and I invite YOU into my heart, LORD JESUS. 6 Wash all of my filthy sins away in the precious blood that YOU shed in my place on the cross at Calvary. 7 YOU will not turn me away, LORD JESUS; YOU will forgive my sins and save my soul. I know because YOUR WORD, the Bible, says so. 8 YOUR WORD says that YOU will turn no one away, and that includes me. 9 Therefore, I know that YOU have heard me, and I know that YOU have answered me, and I know that I am saved. 10 And I thank YOU, LORD JESUS, for saving my soul, and I will show my thankfulness by doing as YOU command and sin no more.11
