Preparing Your Heart to Seek GOD

by Tony Alamo

“And he [King Rehoboam] DID EVIL, BECAUSE HE PREPARED NOT HIS HEART TO SEEK THE LORD” (2 Chronicles 12:14). Have you prepared your heart to seek the LORD? If not, GOD says you are doing evil. Is this evil? Is this evil to not prepare your heart to seek the LORD? The meaning of this is not actually serving the LORD, but it is failing TO PREPARE YOUR HEART to seek the LORD. When you do, then you will serve HIM.

“Asa [king of Judah] had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour. And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand [one million], and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah. Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array [to place in order] in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah” (2 Chronicles 14:8-10).

Asa’s Prayer

“And Asa cried unto the LORD his GOD [preparing his heart for battle], and said, LORD, it is nothing with THEE to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our GOD; for we rest on THEE, and in THY name we go against this multitude. O LORD, THOU art our GOD; let not man prevail against THEE.
“So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled. And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before HIS host; and they carried away very much spoil” (2 Chronicles 14:11-13).

By reading the entire Bible, you can easily learn how to prepare your heart to seek the LORD. You also see how Asa prepared his heart to seek the LORD. The way I do it is to contrast the people in the Bible who prepared their hearts to seek the LORD with those who didn’t prepare their hearts to seek the LORD.1 For example, let’s look at Manasseh, who was the son of Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 32:33).

“Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err [to deviate from the established moral law, which is sin], and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel. And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken. Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his GOD, and humbled himself greatly before the GOD of his fathers [in other words, he began preparing his heart to seek GOD, and he did it because he was afflicted], And prayed unto HIM: and HE was intreated of him [intreated means to ask earnestly, beg and implore], and heard his supplication [a humble request], and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD HE was GOD” (2 Chronicles 33:9-13).

The book of Judges shows us that the people of Israel turned their backs on GOD seven different times, so GOD afflicted them because they were sinning.2 They were not preparing their hearts to seek GOD. When they began seeking GOD earnestly and begging HIM for deliverance, for relief from their enemies (those who were afflicting them), GOD delivered them—only after they had prepared their hearts to seek HIM—that is, after they had stopped sinning by not seeking HIM.3

There is a warning from GOD in Psalms 50:22-23 which says, “Now consider this, ye that forget GOD, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. Whoso offereth praise glorifieth ME: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of GOD.”

These are clear instructions as to how we are supposed to prepare our hearts to seek GOD, lest we be found to be sinners. This is not a one-day affair. This is an everyday preparation. It is the literal way of life to abide with GOD.4 The word “abide” means to remain, to put up with (no matter how tough the going gets), if you want to spend eternity in Heaven, and not in Hell and the Lake of Fire. We must continue on a day-to-day basis and prepare ourselves to never deviate or be distracted in any way from seeking and serving the LORD.5

JESUS said in John 15:7-8, “If ye abide [continue] in ME, and MY words abide [continue] in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is MY FATHER glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be MY disciples.”

It really glorifies GOD immensely to have humans that are made of the dirt from the ground serve HIM. When the human body turns back to dirt, as it does after it dies, the same elements that are found in a shovelful of soil are found in the remains of a dead person after they are cremated or decomposed.

The angels of Heaven were not made of dirt. They were with GOD in Heaven and they knew the power of HIS might. Yet they (the bad angels) fell away from GOD.6 This was Lucifer’s (Satan’s) presumptuous attempt to put GOD down.

GOD made us from a much less endurable product called dirt (Genesis 2:7). HIS desire is for us to serve HIM and put Satan down, but the first two people made of dirt by GOD failed (sinned).7 Satan had a wonderful time deceiving Eve, then Adam; but in retaliation, GOD sent HIS only begotten SON to earth, giving HIM a body made of dirt, with the HOLY SPIRIT in HIM.8

When Satan saw the SON of GOD born on earth in a human body, he was excited. He thought that because he was able to cause the first two humans to sin, he would be able to cause the SON of GOD to sin as well. But the SON of GOD prevailed against him. HE never sinned once.9 “Not by might, nor by power, but by MY SPIRIT, saith the LORD of HOSTS” (Zechariah 4:6).

So a body made of dirt, filled with the HOLY SPIRIT, is able to never sin, so long as it abides—remains—in the SPIRIT of GOD.10 This is accomplished by always preparing your heart to seek GOD, to serve HIM.

When we stay in the SPIRIT, and we let the SPIRIT of GOD in us lead others to GOD through CHRIST (the WORD of GOD11), we glorify GOD much more than angels.12 Glorify GOD now by receiving JESUS as your personal Savior. Start out by saying this prayer:

Prayer

My LORD and my GOD, have mercy upon my soul, a sinner. 1 I believe that JESUS CHRIST is the SON of the living GOD. 2 I believe that HE died on the cross and shed HIS precious blood for the forgiveness of all my former sins. 3 I believe that GOD raised JESUS from the dead by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT 4 and that HE sits on the right hand of GOD at this moment, hearing my confession of sin and this prayer. 5 I open up the door of my heart, and I invite YOU into my heart, LORD JESUS. 6 Wash all of my filthy sins away in the precious blood that YOU shed in my place on the cross at Calvary. 7 YOU will not turn me away, LORD JESUS; YOU will forgive my sins and save my soul. I know because YOUR WORD, the Bible, says so. 8 YOUR WORD says that YOU will turn no one away, and that includes me. 9 Therefore, I know that YOU have heard me, and I know that YOU have answered me, and I know that I am saved. 10 And I thank YOU, LORD JESUS, for saving my soul, and I will show my thankfulness by doing as YOU command and sin no more.11

After salvation, JESUS said to be baptized, fully submerged in water, in the name of the FATHER, and of the SON, and of the HOLY SPIRIT.12 Then study the King James Version Bible, and, for your benefit and the benefit of others, do what it says.13

CHRIST and GOD the FATHER now live in you through the HOLY SPIRIT. There is a way you can receive a fuller portion of the divine nature of GOD in you. The more the divine nature of GOD lives in you, the more you will be able to stand against the temptations that have so easily moved so many millions of Christians away from salvation. Pray for the baptism in the HOLY SPIRIT. For instructions on how to receive the baptism in the HOLY SPIRIT and to receive more of GOD’S holy nature, ask for our literature or call. For without holiness, no man shall see GOD (Hebrews 12:14).

If you want the world saved, as JESUS commands, then don’t rob GOD of HIS tithes and offerings. GOD said, “Will a man rob GOD? Yet ye have robbed ME. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed THEE? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed ME, even this whole nation [and this whole world]. Bring ye all the tithes [a ‘tithe’ is 10% of your gross income] into the storehouse, that there may be meat [Spiritual food] in MINE house [souls saved], and prove ME now herewith, saith the LORD of HOSTS, if I will not open you the windows of Heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of HOSTS. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of HOSTS” (Malachi 3:8-12).
