THE FIRSTBORN

God, speaking to Moses, said, “For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite [kill] all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord” (Ex. 12:12).

“And the blood [from a one year old lamb with no imperfections each family was required to slay, a symbol of the future Jesus, who would shed His blood on the cross at Calvary and die as the great atonement for our sins] shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague [of God killing the firstborn of your household] shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt” (Ex. 12:13).

The token the Lord spoke of was a sign, something intended to represent or indicate something physical or an event. One sign is the rainbow, which is a token of God’s covenant established with Noah.1 In this case, the blood of the paschal lamb, daubed on the doorposts, left and right, and on the doorpost above the doors of the houses of the Hebrews was a sign to the destroying angel of God’s will that He should pass by those houses (Ex. 12:12-13).

Can the Lord know which house has the blood on the doorposts? Can He see that well? How does He know which ones are the firstborn in each household, and how is all this going to take place in one night? How is it possible for God to get all this information together, then destroy all the disobedient people who refuse to acknowledge the future blood of Jesus, of which this is a type? “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible” (Matt.19:26).

“O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, show Thyself. Lift up Thyself, Thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? They break in pieces Thy people, O LORD, and afflict Thine heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

“Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? He that planted the ear, shall He not hear? He that formed the eye, shall He not see? He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not He correct? He that teacheth man knowledge, shall not He know? The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity. Blessed is the man whom Thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of Thy law; That Thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked” (Psa. 94:1-13).

When the Lord manifested Himself to me in an office in 1964, in an attorney’s office, at first I thought I was going crazy. However, it wasn’t long before I was convinced that it was the Lord God. Many people can’t understand how all-mighty God is. But during my experience with God in that office, I was also introduced into how all-mighty His mind is. It is far beyond my ability to explain it, but He revealed me before my birth, as well as every thought that I ever had, every bite of food I had ever eaten, and everything I had ever done.2

Soon I knew it was God, and I know He knows everything, every detail of everything, every atom and every molecule of everything. Actually, it was very easy for Him to know every house in Egypt which didn’t have the blood of the newly killed lamb on the doorposts, as well as all the firstborn who paid no attention to His warning that night. He knows every person, whether saved or lost. I was petrified with more fear than I ever thought possible. All who really have ever known the Lord were the same. Moses said after God had shown Himself to Israel on the mountain, “And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake” (Heb. 12:21).

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Prov. 1:7).3 “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil” (Prov. 8:13).4 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding” (Prov. 9:10).5

“The Lord knoweth them that are His” (II Tim. 2:19). Second Peter 2:9-10 tells us that God knows in these words: “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished. But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise [God’s] government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.”

It is said that a man’s home is his castle or temple. The Bible says that our bodies are the temple or the house of God. First Corinthians 3:16-17 says, “Know ye not that ye are the temple [or house] of God and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy: for the temple of God is holy which temple ye are.”6

Yes, God sees the blood, and hears us, and knows us. He knows if we have defiled the temple, and if the blood of Jesus is on the doorposts of our heart. As a matter of fact, Jesus said He is the door!! (John 10:7). When He sees the blood has cleansed your former sins away, He will not destroy!! Make sure the blood is covering you and that you are saved by saying this prayer.

Prayer

My Lord and my God, have mercy upon my soul, a sinner. 1 I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God. 2 I believe that He died on the cross and shed His precious blood for the forgiveness of all my sins. 3 I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit 4 and that He sits on the right hand of God at this moment, hearing my confession of sin and this prayer. 5 I open up the door of my heart and I invite You into my heart, Lord Jesus. 6 Wash all of my filthy sins away in the precious blood that You shed in my place on the cross at Calvary. 7 You will not turn me away, Lord Jesus, You will forgive my sins and save my soul. I know because Your Word, the Bible says so. 8 Your Word says that You will turn no one away, and that includes me. 9 Therefore, I know that You have heard me, and I know that You have answered me, and I know that I am saved. 10 And I thank You, Lord Jesus, for saving my soul, and I will show my thankfulness by doing as You command and sin no more. 11

You've just completed the first step in a series of five steps which are necessary to receive salvation. Your second step is to deny yourself and take up the cross daily for the purpose of mortifying yourself, that is, for putting to death your own will, your soulful self, and the world with all of its lusts. All these must be baptized into the death of Christ.

Step three is your resurrection from the satanic life of Adam unto the sinless life of Christ. Step four is your ascension into a position of authority to reign for God on earth, and the fifth step is to reign for God on earth to the end for the purpose of bringing about the kingdom of Heaven on earth. You must learn the Word of God, then submit yourself and do what the Word says, so that the Church and the world may see evidence of your submission to God's Word, His order, and His authority in and by you.
