Stronger Than a Big Oak Tree

by Tony Alamo

God converted me. No one got to me by witnessing to me. It was all supernatural, by visions, dreams, and God was talking to me audibly by His Spirit! Unsaved, unregenerated people are such failures. They seem to take pleasure in telling everyone how lost they are and that no one (even in Christ) can be perfect, and that no one is perfect, even though God says some of us are, and they must be or they could never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.1

When I first was saved, I absolutely had to tell people about it! I went all over Hollywood, telling the media and people in the music industry--everybody! I loved and still, after 47 years, love the presence of the Holy Spirit being around me all day, and I loved, and still do love, the things the Lord would, and still does, show me.

Salvation happened to me in a very supernatural, special way in the year 1964. Susie’s daughter told me that her mother really knew God, and that she really knew how to teach the Bible, so I asked Susie if she would teach me. This happened after I was led to meet her at a restaurant. At that time, Susie was nine years older than me and had been saved when she was a little girl. She had been healed by Jesus on her death bed when she was very young. She had seen Jesus while she was recuperating at her aunt and uncle’s small farm in the Ozark mountains in Arkansas. I was, at that time, ignorant to the things of God, and really appreciated all the true information I learned from Susie.

I never had ever met a truly Godly person like her. She was not at all self-righteous. People who call themselves Christians that act self-righteous have always turned me off. Susie told me that when she was getting the all night long vision of her and myself being married, she, at first, didn’t receive that it was God showing it to her. She said she told the Lord, “He is newly saved, he’s too young!” She said the Lord answered her instantly, saying, “But he is strong!” She, after hours of fervent prayer, told the Lord, “If this is really you, then tell him and make him tell me. If you will do that, then I will know that it is you showing me this and not the devil.”

At that time, I and several other new Christians were in the front room of her one bedroom apartment. I hadn’t had any sleep all night because of a toothache. It went away, and I became very comfortable and tired. I then fell sound asleep on the living room couch. The powerful vision came to me. I saw us as lovers, and being married. I thought it was a dream or vision from the devil. I actually pushed myself up from sleep because of the vision, but the vision kept coming to me even when I was wide awake. I told the Lord, “No Lord, she’s been saved much longer than me, she’s older and smarter than me,” and the Lord answered me, “That’s good for your ego.” That shook me up, because I didn’t realize that I had an ego.

We got married and our marriage, powered by GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT started the JESUS MOVEMENT all over the world. We were the first ones everybody called the “Jesus freaks” and the “God squad.” The hippies were being saved by the thousands. I’ve written about this in other literature, but this is different.

Another vision that I had written up before was the literature I called Difficult Mountain, where I saw Sue and I struggling under a tremendous storm, symbolic of mighty persecutions ahead. After Susie’s death on April 8, 1982, a few years later after many other persecutions and utterly ugly prosecutions, I was in the pulpit in our Los Angeles church, ready to bring the evening message. I started to tell the congregation that while I was outside in front of the church, admiring the biggest oak tree I had ever seen in my life, which was on our property (I’ve written about this too, in a piece of literature entitled, “The Tree”), while I was looking at it, I prayed, “Lord, make me as strong as that tree.” It was then that the Lord told me, “You’re going to have to be hundreds of millions of times stronger than that tree.”

So I was telling the people this from the pulpit, and just as I finished telling them what the Lord said, we heard a great noise, and we felt the church shake violently. After hearing this great noise outside, the brothers ran to the window and then looked at me and said, “It’s the tree,” the massive tree which looked like an animated cartoon of a tree. In a photograph, it didn’t look real. I knew then that I and everyone else was stronger than that old, massive tree.

After this, the persecution increased more and more. The persecutions and false allegations keep getting worse and worse, but they made me stronger and stronger. After all these years and after all these persecutions, finally I know why I need to be hundreds of millions of times stronger than the big tree. (God meant spiritual strength.) I don’t know the full extent of the meaning of what the Lord said, but God has kept me. “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

Federal Judge Barnes just sentenced me to one hundred seventy-five years in Federal prison on false charges. The government is bent on closing my church, adopting out all of our children, selling our property for phony restitution of the women who lied about me and my church.

Are you ready for this sort of persecution—especially if you were seventy-seven years old, legally blind, with heart problems and diabetes? They don’t do animals like this! Get ready. Prepare yourself for the worst. Stay seated with Christ in heavenly places; then you will be able to make it (Ephesians 2:4-6).

Second Corinthians 4:17-18 says, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Get hooked up with the eternal living God so you may become eternal and live in Heaven with Him forever by saying this prayer unto Him:

Prayer

My Lord and my God, have mercy upon my soul, a sinner. 1 I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God. 2 I believe that He died on the cross and shed His precious blood for the forgiveness of all my sins. 3 I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit 4 and that He sits on the right hand of God at this moment, hearing my confession of sin and this prayer. 5 I open up the door of my heart and I invite You into my heart, Lord Jesus. 6 Wash all of my filthy sins away in the precious blood that You shed in my place on the cross at Calvary. 7 You will not turn me away, Lord Jesus, You will forgive my sins and save my soul. I know because Your Word, the Bible says so. 8 Your Word says that You will turn no one away, and that includes me. 9 Therefore, I know that You have heard me, and I know that You have answered me, and I know that I am saved. 10 And I thank You, Lord Jesus, for saving my soul, and I will show my thankfulness by doing as You command and sin no more. 11

You've just completed the first step in a series of five steps which are necessary to receive salvation. Your second step is to deny yourself and take up your cross daily and follow Jesus for the purpose of mortifying your flesh, that is, for putting to death your own will, your soulful self, and the world with all of its lusts. All these must be baptized into the death of Christ.

Step three is your resurrection from the satanic life of Adam unto the sinless life of Christ. Step four is your ascension into a position of authority to reign for God with Christ on earth, and the fifth step is to reign for God in Christ on earth to the end for the purpose of bringing about the kingdom of Heaven on earth. You must learn the Word of God, submit yourselves one to another, and do what the Word says so that the church and the world may see evidence of your submission to God’s Word, His order, and His authority in and by you.

Praise the Lord. May God reward you abundantly.

Yours in the wonderful name of Jesus,
Pastor Tony Alamo
